Now there's a way to cut government borrowing.

I read somewhere (possibly on your blog or a blog linked from it) that the previous government wanted to get 2 million out of 2.7 million IB claimants transferred to JSA. To achieve that, they'd have to conduct medical checks on everybody. Of course, by the time they've done that, they may find that the results are different from what they hoped, but that's another issue.

Changing the computer system to send you something every three months would cost far more than the savings made from the postage, and IT projects are among the main targets for spending cuts anyway. Of course, spending money on IT projects can save money in the end, but governmment IT projects have a bad history.

I do hope that you haven't taken on more than you can handle with this job, but I fear that a lot of people will accept job offers that they have doubts about, with the end result that employers will get angry and frustrated, leading to them being more reluctant than they already are to take on disabled people.Peter Durward Harrishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06172943919919044658noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1787093396367128301.post-18260617283601142332010-07-05T17:12:53.440+01:002010-07-05T17:12:53.440+01:00If the intention is to provide emergency aid for t...If the intention is to provide emergency aid for those whose claims are being processed or re-assessed, it sounds fair enough in isolation, but I suspect that IDS has plans and that this is only the fist step. Indeed, the wording of the Guardian article hints as much.

It may indeed be a pilot scheme for a plan to gradually replace cash JSA with handouts, but it may also be part of the government's prepartion to fight the threatened strikes over public sector spending cuts. Sometimes there are genuine reasons for their doing so, but I certainly don't think it's true in all or even most cases. Apart from depriving local people of jobs, it reinforces the beliefs of those who think we don't work to work. They blame us without recognizing that at least some of the blame belongs with employers. Yes, there are some who truly don't want to work, but they aren't as numerous as the critics claim.

To all - the upcoming budget is one to watch. At least it's a relief to know that nothing bad has happened. It's a bit like that with me too - nothing happening to affect my job prospects and no particular demands from the jobcentre. We'll just have to see what 2010 brings. With the likelihood of a new, but probably just as bad, government, it's anybody's guess what will happen. I'm hoping that the escalating government debts will force the abolition of all these stupid forced work schemes, but I'm not raising my hopes too high.

Like you, I feel like I am going through the motions. I've got to the stage where I feel like I can apply for any job knowing that an employer isn't going to be interested, so I don't have to worry about getting offered a job that I'm not really suited to. That actually makes it easier to fulfil whatever quota of job applications I could be asked to fulfil, but it emphasises the stupidity of the whole thing. I see jobs that I know I could do if given the chance, but I know that I won't be given that chance.

Well, at least be sure to try and enjoy Christmas. Those who are in the minority & do fiddle the system make the lives of honest people harder.

There is some certain strength in knowing I do not lie, I try to hold my head high & go about my daily life without guilt. In reality to fight the system & its basic premise that all claimants are dishonest means we live in fear & stress of brown envelopes & men/women in cars.

Leaving us alone to live well with chronic conditions would be better.

Its easier though I feel for those in suits to blame us lot for the 'state of the nation' than look to their consciences (sp). Last week's Labour party conference and Prescott's comments the weekend before show that they need a period in opposition to regroup. Their turn will come again, with a different leader and different policies.

Cameron reminds me of Ted Heath and John Major and both of them were disasters, though Gordon Brown makes even those two seem competent by comparison. You'd think that would tempt me to vote for Cameron's Tories, but it won't. A lot of people will be tempted on the basis that Cameron can't be any worse. He just might be worse though I hope I'm wrong.

The Tory "work and pensions" shadow minister Theresa May said recently that she has consulted private companies who are supposed to be part of the Tory plans to get people back to work - often the same companies who ran the New Deal schemes. It's a shame she didn't consult unemployed and disabled people. If she even read the blogs that we and others have posted, she'd know that these private companies are useless.Peter Durward Harrishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06172943919919044658noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1787093396367128301.post-31845960384019170422009-09-22T10:44:06.272+01:002009-09-22T10:44:06.272+01:00A4e Blog

The government have paid billions of tax payers money to bullies who are no better at "supporting" people than that of any other profit making job agency - if her "who's up for car sales?" session was anything to go by. Physical ability does not make a person "job ready!" ARGGGHHHH!! I feel we should be doing more to stop this. How is it better to pay someone like Sherrie £2k plus a month of tax payers money than far less than that for someone to get their life in order to find sustainable employment?? They still get their wage whether these people are in work for a year or 2 weeks.. not really a long term solution! Very disappointed AGAIN in this government...every bit of socialism in this party seems to have disappeared and the rich are still getting richer while the poor are just shat on from a great height. Perhaps this scheme is meant to increase suicide to get the numbers down?? Hmm a target they may succeed in.Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07701478405695164274noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1787093396367128301.post-61177464976552460762009-09-05T13:05:39.292+01:002009-09-05T13:05:39.292+01:00Did you see last Thursdays episode ?

The sys...Benefit Busters got me incredibly annoyed! The system is there for people who are geniunely sick or who are looking for work but can't get any -however the attitude of some people is beyond belief. I was particulary shocked at the younger people who felt they were entitled to benefits even though they have never worked in their life. I would love to ask then exactly why they think they are entitled to thousands of pounds from the goverment when they haven't paid a penny in. They can't get jobs they want so they don't bother. If you want a good job, put the hard work in and either study or work your way up. Those who earn a lot work for it, but they started at the bottom and did crappy jobs and whatever it took to pay the bills. All we have now is a country with the attitude that it's easier to get benefits then work. The government should stop encouraging and rewarding laziness - I'm not talking about those who are unable to work due to sickness, it's those who can but won't. If their benefits were stopped they would soon find the motivation. This may be a rant but I work hard for my money (doing some depressing jobs on my way up) and pay a lot in tax, and it seems that a good portion of this is spent on people who just don't feel like working. Yes, well done indeed to the Labour party, it's a system we can all be proud of.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
